Women in Flavor & Fragrance Commerce (WFFC) are sponsoring The Art of Scent, 1889-2012, an exhibit that will run from November 13, 2012 through February 24, 2013, at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), at 2 Columbus Circle, New York, NY. This is the first museum exhibition to explore the design and aesthetics of olfactory art from 1889 to the present, according to WFFC. It was designed by Chandler Burr, Curator of Olfactory Art at MAD and former New York Times perfume critic.

Each scent on display will represent an olfactory milestone. For instance, the exhibition opens with the design of Jicky by Aime Guerlain, which was created in 1889. Experts say this fragrance helped usher in the modern era of synthetic molecules, alongside natural materials.

Celine Roche, president, WFFC, says: “We are excited about our partnership with MAD, which reinforces our commitment to qualitative and creative educational programs with the level of expertise our members expect from an organization today.”
